How to Become a Morning Person and Have Energy All Day

Hey guys!!

I used to be a snooze pusher, but I've learned some tricks over the years that have helped me get my day started super early with more energy! My schedule gets thrown off a bit when traveling - for instance, I'm in Tokyo right now which is a 16-hour time difference, but it's still important for me to wake up early no matter where I am. I've learned to love the mornings because the air's at its freshest and the streets are empty. There's no better time to seize a morning run or workout that sets you up for the rest of the day!

So, I wanted to share some of my favorite tips for how to become a morning person and have energy all day even when you're on the go.

1. Start with a clean, wholesome diet

A clean diet starts with lots of protein and colorful veggies. That combined with a healthy mix of sleep and gym time play a HUGE role in the amount energy you have. I mentioned giving up coffee last year, and it was one of the hardest and BEST things I ever did. I now sleep better and feel less tired on a regular basis. Also, always make sure you have breakfast whether it's a banana, eggs, or a hearty smoothie - and make time for snacks. No one has energy on an empty stomach.

A clean diet can be hard to achieve when you're traveling because let's be honest, airplane food isn't the best thing for you. If you know you're going to be traveling, stock up on some Vitamin C Effervescent to give your immune system a boost. Getting sick during travels is the worst and hardest to recover from so I always do what I can to avoid it. Don't forget your green supplements as well as some healthy snacks especially for long-haul flights out of the country. Some of my favorites are _____.

2. Wake up at the same time consistently

It's so much easier to become a morning person when you wake up at the same time everyday AND it helps you sleep better at night. Forget the snooze button. Get up as soon as it goes off and try some of my favorite stretching exercises here. Once you feel the oxygen flow, you'll be ready to pop right up. Give it about a week before your body gets used to it.

When you're going into a completely different time zone like me, planning your sleep is super important for having energy all day. My preferred method is figuring out how much I'll need to adjust my sleep/wake times to be in sync after landing. Depending on what time I arrive, I'll either sleep or stay awake on the plane. Ear plugs and eye masks usually help if you have a hard time falling sleep when traveling.

3. Shower and play some tunes

Showering in the mornings is one of the best ways to freshen up and stay awake. It's the one thing I always try to do when I land after long flights. But also, don't underestimate the power of music. It changes my mood and gets me going. I love listening to Leon Bridges in the morning while drinking my matcha - recently shared my gym playlist, and it's SOOO good for pumping up the energy in the mornings. Try slipping in your earphones while you lace up your sneakers. It'll get you in the right mindset to sweat no matter what time it is, which leads me to my last tip...

4. Hit the gym early

Morning workouts give me MORE energy to kick off the day! I love when my heart is pumping and I feel that adrenaline rush. It always boosts my mood and gives me a sense of accomplishment. The mental challenge naturally results in getting MORE done! If you haven't worked out in a while or are just getting started, go slow and allow your body to adjust. You'll feel the benefits as your body grows stronger. The same goes for traveling. Ideally, I'd love to go to the gym first thing when I arrive although this isn't always possible. I'll rely on light stretches and fast-paced walks until I can squeeze in a proper workout.

Don't forget that your lifestyle in combo with the tips above inevitably impact how much energy you have. Luckily, much of it can be tweaked so you can become the morning person you've always wanted. It's all about balance and habit!
