Smoothie Guide 101 & Matcha Cream Anti-Aging Smoothie Recipe

Protein smoothies don't have to be complicated and you deffffinitely don't need 16 ingredients, a Vitamix and 5 superfoods. I'm simplifying smoothies in this blog post today with a list of ideas for ingredients, a super easy formula, and a delicious creamy matcha smoothie.

The Smoothie Formula 

To keep it as simple as possible while still making sure you're getting a well balance smoothie I'd start here:

1 cup frozen fruit + 1 cup milk + 1 tbsp fat + 1 protein

The key is to fill the liquid 3/4 up the ingredients in the blender! 

Below is your mega list of ingredients you can mix and match for your perfect smoothie to get started!

Base Options:

  • Almond butter

  • Peanut butter

  • Cashew butter

  • Hazlenut butter

  • Coconut butter/oil

  • Coconut milk

Liquid Options:

  • Water

  • Coconut Water

  • Milk

  • Nut milk

  • 100% juice (not from concentrate)

Extras (optional):

  • Greens! Kale, spinach etc.

  • Adaptogen powder

  • Hemp seeds

  • Honey

  • Sea salt

  • Dried coconut

  • Rolled oats

  • Goji berries

  • Chia seeds

  • Ginger

  • Turmeric

Simple Smoothie Examples: 

  • 1 frozen banana, 1 cup almond milk, 1 tbsp almond butter, 1 scoop vanilla protein, 1 handful kale

  • 1 cup frozen strawberries, 1 banana, 1 cup cashew milk, 1 tbsp coconut oil, 1 scoop vanilla protein

The Blend Strategy:

I always put the fruit (frozen or not) in the bottom of the blender, followed by some ice. Then I add the softer ingredients like avocado, butters etc. followed by powders and superfoods and liquid at the end. This will ensure a well blended smoothie.

Anti Aging Matcha Cream Smoothie!!!

YAY It's here! I'm so excited to share this one because OH MY YUM. IT'S FREAKING DELICIOUS and not only that, it's great for your skin and will have you glowing in no time! The creaminess comes from a combination of coconut milk, greek yogurt and avocado mMMmm. The star matcha that I'm using is Vital Proteins Matcha Collagen! It tastes so good you guys.

Collagen makes up our hair, nails, joints, ligaments, and tendons and around age 25 your body naturally stops producing collagen and the existing collagen begins to break down. EEK! This leads to the aging process so that's why you hear so many people talk about blending collagen into basically everything.

OK let's get started!

Ingredients:

1 scoop Vital Proteins Matcha Collagen powder

1/4 tsp vanilla extract

1/2 cup full fat coconut milk canned

1/2 cup almond milk (add a little more at a time if needed to reach desired consistency) 

1/2 avocado

1 banana

1/2 cup Greek yogurt

6-7 ice cubes

***optional: 1/2 soft tofu for extra protein***
