My favorite ways to use essential oils

If you follow me on Snapchat or Instagram or have been reading my blog for awhile, you know about my obsession with oils. Essential oils to be exact! It started with learning about using aromatherapy in St. Barths and how their vibrational qualities can improve different aspects of your life, whether psychological or physical. It’s a homeopathic way to balance your body and mind, and I found that so interesting! Also- I love that it gives you an excuse to take moments of self -care and relaxation throughout the day. Plus everytime you inhale and exhale DEEPLY- you always feel so much better afterwards. ::doing it now:: ahhh~

Anyway, I have been using essential oils every single day and I’m actually shocked I haven’t dedicated a full blog post to them yet, so today is the day!

Benefits of essential oils

Another interesting thing about oils is that each one does something unique. Not only do they smell different, but each has its own set of benefits. These are some of my go-to types, and my favorite set in general is the one from Art Naturals (it has ALL the good ones!):

Eucalyptus - For one, I just looove this smell. It’s very natural, earthy. This oil is amazing at clearing up sinuses or if you have asthma

Lavender - Suuuper relaxing. It’ll chill you out and take away anxiety or stress. Helps you relax before bed too.

Orange - Citrus flavors in general are known to be some of the most energizing essential oils. WAKE UP REMI!

Peppermint - MMMM another one of my favorite scents! This type can help you get into FOCUS-MODE while also calming your system down. It’s also great for cooling sore muscles.

Tea tree - helps clear skin ailments like acne and diffusing it helps purify the air in your home.

How I use essential oils

I just discovered this beautiful Bluetooth Oil Diffuser by Art Naturals and I’m so obsessed! Not only is it beautiful and the perfect desk decor,  it runs for hours and can play music from your iphone! Did I mention it’s also a clock and lights up in 7 different colors? It’s perfect for my work space, where I spend most of my day and It’s powerful enough to fill the whole room.

I like to turn mine on first thing in the morning, even before I start working. I take a deep breath in from the diffuser and set an intention for the day usually with an oil that is uplifting and energizing like sweet orange and peppermint. It’s such a nice practice, and one that I look forward to every morning.

When I diffuse at night, I stick to lavender or frankincense (more relaxing scents) to help me wind down. Even the sound of the diffuser alone helps me feel more calm, especially on the busiest days.

If I’m sick or stuffy, I’ll put hot water instead of cold into the diffuser, then use eucalyptus. I’ll inhale deeply to clear up my sinuses! I like to do this especially during allergy season - like right now.

On my pillow

I also use essential oils to help me feel relaxed before bed. Misting lavender on my pillow cases before bed helps me fall deep asleep.

On my skin

You can even put essential oils directly onto your skin when mixed with a carrier oil like jojoba or coconut oil. Here is a good guide to how to dilute oils properly. Generally, a 2% Dilution is good for use in daily aromatherapy or skin application.

2% = 2 drops per teaspoon of carrier oil or 10-12 drops per ounce

Tea tree is helpful for blemishes or any infected areas on your skin.

Sometimes I’ll dab eucalyptus and peppermint on my temples before I work - it makes me wake up and focus and can get rid of tension.

You can even mix your favorite essential oils to shea butter for a delicious smelling lotion!

So there you have it - the benefits of using essential oils and how I use them daily. Are you hooked on them like me? Thinking about trying them? Let me know if you have questions!
